Happy US Independence Day
Monday you all got native Indian DVDs to watch and blog. Remember we are now concentrating on the native Indian culture. Look to see how the movie portrays these Indians. Describe how they are treated and how they treated the white men. Look for interesting cultural features that these Indians practiced. How did they treat their women and their children? Also look for attitudes of the white people who came into contact with these Indians. How did the Indians feel about Indians who made friends with the whites. How did whites feel about people who had Indian friends?

Remember the documentary we watched in class about cultural misunderstandings. See if you can identify some of these misunderstandings. Always be on the look out for anything the white people picked up from the Indians and used it to survive.

Summarize your story and then blog the cultural characteristics you see. Then come up with at least ten questions you would like to ask a native Indian about their culture. The movie should have sparked your interest with many questions you can ask. I will take these questions and compile them in my blog to be answered by a native Indian living in Oklahoma.

You also have picked your "adopted" Indian nation to research. This research will be the basis for a ten minute powerpoint presentation for your classmates. Here is the order of the groupings in which they will be presented. This will start on July 13th, Thurday. Each of you must email your nation for more information. Ask them the population figures, their contributions to modern culture and what do they hold most important about being a native Indian. These are just a few samples of what you can ask. Get started right away so you can incorporate your email responses into your presentations.
