| Showing on Thursday, August 31, 2006 |
On Thursday I will be showing a documentary entitled Riding the Rails. It is a great look at the Great Depression and kids who left home via the trains that crisscross America. It will give you a deeper understanding of just how bad things were during this period. Understand this and you will have a good grasp as to what comes later.
The Indian tribes presentations have been suspended unless you have talked to me personally about the one you did not present. No presentation means zero for that part of your grade. Sorry, but you had your chance.
Each of you should have two Great Depression movies to watch. Get the most from them and try to understand what was going on during this time. Most historians believe this is a huge period for the development of modern American culture. See if you can figure out why this could be true.
Next week we start the WWII movies. You will get two - one for the Pacific Theater and one for the European Theater. Most of these are action movies while a few really do bring in some characterizations and reasons for the war. We will talk about them next week.
Next week you will also be getting your final music CD. You will have a doo wop folder and an early rock folder. The assignment on the rock music has already been given but I plan to modify it a bit when I hand out the CDs.
Time to start returning the movies so I will have them ready for next term. I need them all back so when you are done bring them to me.
Good luck and good blogging. |
